Inspirations + Aspirations

I am motivated by many things. All of these pieces work together and inspire me to continue to do good work that supports sustainable well-being for all.

What inspires me?

  • People who are moving boldly and shifting norms to disrupt the business-as-usual case.
Especially in the fields of education and urban planning. I admire those who transcend silos and make processes more interdisciplinary and collaborative. These people see flaws in traditional processes and break down barriers that prevent sustainable action.

  • Biocentric design.
This describes aspects of the built environment that are designed to align with and support natural ecosystems. Examples of this include green infrastructure (green roofs, rain gardens, etc.), passive design, permaculture, or even planting native species. I believe we can co-create an urban landscape that can support rather than destroy ecosystems.

  • Possibility for change.
The fact that nothing is stagnant or permanent excites me. I feel that there is a lot of momentum and desire for change towards a more sustainable future. Yes, old systems are well-established and hard to shift, but I think current and future generations will be well-equipped to stir things up.

  • Biking.
For whatever reason, a lot of my best thinking happens when I am cycling. Perhaps it is being in a relaxed state or moving through the world and into new spaces. I find a lot of inspiration and creativity when I am biking.
Inspirations
What am I working towards?

  • Being a change agent.
I aim to co-create spaces that promote sustainable well-being. I'd love to help weave sustainability into the social fabrics of my community through education and/or planning processes. I hope to help motivate positive behaviour change. This requires disrupting unsustainable norms and moving forward boldly as a positive deviant.

  • Transcending silos.
Solving today's complex and wicked problems requires collaboration. I am passionate about connecting people to new ideas or groups of people in order to facilitate collective impact. This involves plenty of communication, engagement, and dialogue.

  • Reducing barriers.
I believe that community building, education, and planning should all be participatory processes. I'd love to reduce barriers that prevent all voices from speaking or being heard. This will hopefully get rid of any "us vs. them" mentality and allow people to collaborate for sustainable well-being.

  • Career goals.
I would love to work in a setting where I can create meaningful positive change in my community through collaboration, experiential learning, design, or new processes. I aim to continue to work as a sustainability practitioner in or around Vancouver, BC.
